The Best Way to Get Your Digestive System Ready for Zerona

By Dr. Troy Don · May 24, 2010 · Filed in Zerona Results, Zerona Tips · 3 Comments »

Because you asked for it and because you are not getting the support from your doctors and health care professionals, I’m here to tell you about what I recommend for my patients.

When I sit down with a person who is interested in getting Zerona laser done, BUT I discover a significant potential challenge from their digestive system I have a conversation similar to what I’ll be sharing with you in this article.

The laser is great at doing two things – breaking up the fat particle into its smaller component parts (liquefying it) and opening natural channels that exist in the fat cell wall.  This allows the fat to seep out into the interstitial tissue.  That’s where the work of the Zerona laser stops.  It is then up to your body to do the rest – specifically the lymphatic system.  Your lymphatic system will gather that “debris” and carry it to the liver to be processed then you eliminate it through a bowel movement.

So, if you are backed up in your digestive system – that can present itself as a bottle-neck.  In other words, the lymphatic system wont want to carry something to an area that already has a traffic jam.

That’s why I am such an advocate for a good moving system.

So if you have a digestive problem, this article is for you – EVEN if you are not considering Zerona!

Lets define digestive problem.

Your food takes about 4 hours to be broken down and digested and to move though your digestive track.  Which makes sense, as we should be eating about every 4 hours.  In fact, the process of eating stimulates your nervous system to have a bowel movement.

So yes, I am saying you should have 3 full bowel movements a day.

Now get this… if you eat 3 meals a day… but have a bowel movement only once every two days… this is a problem!  Essentially you are like 5 to 6 meals behind! Right?

Unfortunately most people eat poorly.  And those that eat “healthy”, determine that “healthy” label by comparing themselves to others and by going off their GENERAL knowledge of “healthy” eating.

While that is a good start, it is not adequate for people who have a problem.  If you have a problem, then we need to move past the “general” and get “specific”.  So for you, you need to determine your food sensitivities – there are many.

Most people may do a cleanse by just taking some capsules to “cleanse” the body, while making not changes to their eating habits.  In other words, they are hoping to clean themselves but not giving any attention to removing the toxins that they have in their daily diet.

Simply – you’ve got to get the dog out of the mud before you try to wash the dog.

The best program that I have experienced and witnessed is a doctor supported program. You wont find this on the shelf at your drug store or at you vitamin shop.

This program I recommend is also a food elimination diet.  In other words, I want you to find out what foods you are sensitive too – there are many!

This program at first does not appear easy.  Rather, it requires a lifestyle change for 21-days.

Did I mention it requires a lifestyle change?

If not… guess what… it requires a lifestyle change!

If you’d like to learn more about this cleanse, I recorded a video of the last “class” presentation.  I call it a Discovery Day.  In my Rancho Cucamonga office, 3 weeks ago, I had 43 people finish (out of 44 that started) a cleanse with fantastic feedback and results.  Weight loss, energy, bowel habits, sleep improvements, etc.  There was such a demand from those graduates for their friends and family that they wanted me to do it again with another group.  So if you’d like to learn more… watch this…

If you are interested and if you out of the area, contact my office so we can let you know what to do.

That’s it for now.

Who Shouldn’t Use The Zerona Laser

By Dr. Troy Don · May 17, 2010 · Filed in Zerona Results · No Comments »

Ok, it’s been awhile since I’ve blogged… but, this is a good one.

In fact, I’ll go as far as saying that this one I suspect will cause me to receive a good amount of hate mail from doctors out there using the Zerona laser.

But its ok… unfortunately many Zerona doctors are lazy and creating a great deal of unhappy patients out there. So this stuff needs to be said.

I’m told that there are some negative reviews online from dissatisfied patients.  Well, that’s what some patients who come in for a consultation say.

I’ve also made some realizations about my fellow Zerona laser providers that I suspect is a cause for any dissatisfaction.

Let me explain…

When I sit down with a prospective patient I will take a health history.  Many consultation start with a patient wanting to find out how much my program is and how soon can they get started.  I have to tell them to slow down, and lets first see if they are even a good candidate for this program.

During the consultation I’m looking to find out if there is any reason they would get less than average results.  Remember – according the studies, average person lost 3.5 inches combined to the waist hips and thighs after 6 sessions over 2 weeks.

What am I looking for? Three to four things…

#1 – Blood sugar issues.  From the history I can detect if a person has a blood sugar issue.  Like what? Like insulin resistance, diabetes, or hypoglycemia.  Some people know, but unfortunately most do know realize it.  How would you find out? Having certain symptoms and laboratory blood work.  I read one study that said that 1 out of 4 people have diabetes in this country – so yes, there are many people that don’t even know.

#2 – Thyroid issues.  From the history I can also detect if a person has a thyroid issues.  Many women have thyroid issues – hypothyroid to be specific.  Unfortunately, they often do not know the cause for their low acting thyroid.  It happens all the time.  In fact, heard from one post-graduate seminar I went to that the number one cause for hypothyroidism is a condition known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.  It turns out that my mother had this and it was a cause for many of her health challenges.  Oprah also has this.  And the longer I practice, the more and more women I have found to have this condition.  It is an auto immune condition that deserves more attention and discussion beyond this blog.

#3 – Digestive issues.  Quite quickly I can discern the health of a person’s digestive system.  I’ve discussed this in other blogs.  And it is so important to get this working properly before doing Zerona that I wont work with someone if they don’t give proper attention to it first.  Every week I’ll tell a patient that I wont accept them until they get this issue improved. Ideal is 2 to 3 bowel movements a day.  (I had a patient in my Pasadena office just tell me that their medical doctor told her that its ok for her to have a BM once every 4 days because “there is no norm”.  You’ve got to be kidding me. Seriously doc?)  If you have a challenge with this, stay tuned as I’ve put patient through a fantastic safe and effective and perfectly healthy 21 day cleanse. I’ll post a blog on this in the next week or so.

#4 – Realistic Expectations.  Some people are looking for a quick fit to ALL of their shape issues.  Some people read 3.5 inches and expect it in all of their target locations – 3 inches in the waist, 3 inches in the hips, 3 inches in the thighs.  While this would be great to have happen, it is not the rule.  So when these patients get 5 inches in combined loss, they are not happy.  Their expectation is greater than what was achieved.  Patients are telling my staff how excited they are with their results, and ask why I am not so enthusiastic about the Zerona.  This is what I tell them – ‘I want you to be excited because of your own results; not because of the results that I see in other patients.  They seem to get that.

Unfortunately most Zerona doctors are not qualifying patient out there before accepting them for care.  They collect the money and get them treated whether the results are there are not.  I’ve even had stories of patients telling me of how they didn’t even have a consultation – but rather a like ordering from a menu.

Unfortunately I’ve even heard of doctors telling prospective patients everything they want to here in order to get them started under care.  I’m sorry be quoting to a patient that they should EXPECT to lose 9 inches in 2 weeks is ridiculous.

If you have a blood sugar issue or thyroid issues, does it mean that you wont get results on Zerona?  No.  Does it mean that you have more challenges than the average Jane?  Yes.  Does it mean that it will be more difficult for your body to process this liquefied fat? Yes.

Just last week, we had a patient in my Rancho Cucamonga office that was behind on her mid-way measurements.  I then started to suspect that her thyroid was more of an issue than she expressed.  I ordered her blood work, specific to her issues.  And guess what?  She has Hashimotos.  And now, the information I share with her will be even more powerful for her that Zerona laser.

I suspect you realize now that I do things different than your typical Zerona doctor.  I’m happy to be different this way.

I’d love to get more doctors to do the doctoring of their patients.

I hope this helps you in your journey to health.

Let me know if this was helpful.

Blessings,

Dr. Troy Don

What’s Possible with Zerona Week By Week – Dr. Don’s Personal Update

Ok so it is now time for an update…

If you will recall a little over 3 weeks ago I was discussed with myself and what the holidays (yes, I’m blaming the holidays) did to me and my waist!

You can look back at the other blogs to refresh your memory…

So, I decided to do want I prescribe to my patients.

What is that exactly?

Well it depends greatly on what I find out about you… having said that, this is what I did as I would have recommended to someone like me.

1 – I started with a cleanse that would last for 21 one days. It is a food elimination cleanse.  In other words there are certain foods you eliminate from your selection of food.  I was eating fish and chicken and lots of fruit and veggies.  With that cleanse I also took nutrition and supplements that are specific to my lab results.  (yes, lab results! That’s a topic for a whole different conversation/blog).  During this cleanse I’m not counting calories… I’m not eating prepackaged frozen dinners… I’m not replacing meals with power protein shakes… I’m not starving myself.  This is by far the best cleanse program out there!  I’ve seen a lot!

2 – A week after, that I started the Zerona laser – every other day. 3 times per week.  I did not get a lymphatic massage or digestive massage.  Heck, it was hard enough for me to lay down for 40 minutes those there times per week.  But I have to say that it was nice to sit back and do some casual reading. I did this for 2 weeks.

3 – the next step is to exercise.  This I have not yet started… so let me give you the results as they stand now.

Results…

After 1 week I lost 9 pounds…

After 2 weeks I lost a total of 11 pounds…

em>After 3 weeks I lost a total of 13 pounds… and I’ve lost 3.25 inches to my waist and a quarter of an inch to my hips.  I’ve only targeted the laser to my waist.

Once again I am very impressed with the effectiveness of the laser when combined with my nutrition protocol.

However, I’m not yet done! I want to now add exercising to my routine!  That will be fun, the hardest part is making time to get it done.  I’m going to shoot for 4 times per week, 30 minutes each time.

I’ll let you know the progress in a week or two…

I have to tell you of a bi-product of my doing this… My wife has been motivated to get back in shape too.  Having a baby has left her with some unwanted fat and so she is going to approach things differently… I doubt she’ll be willing to let me share with you her numbers. ;)

Another benefit is I feel so much better – more energy, more confidence knowing my close fit better… and heck, who doesn’t like to be asked “you’re looking great, what are you doing to lose weight.”

Blessings,

Love/Marriage/Divorce & Zerona

By Dr. Troy Don · June 19, 2009 · Filed in Zerona and Life · 1 Comment »

Today is something completely different than the typical Zerona blog topic… but I think you’ll get it if you just follow me for a bit…

As you know… Many people want the Zerona laser because it will help them to shed some inches and therefore feel better about themselves and then possibly help them to find the love of their life!

Others want it because they just ended a relationship and they want to show themselves some love by getting into shape again and then get back out there to hopefully find some love!

It seems love (for yourself or from others)… seem to be a common denominator in many of the consultations I have.

And here is what I tell them… “While the Zerona laser will help you to get into the shape you want… it does not mean that you’ll find the love of your life.”

And while they understand and nod in agreement it still seems to be the motivating factor…

So today I’d like to share with you something that a doctor friend sent to me that I think will do way more to spice up your life than the Zerona laser (or any other thing that helps you to get into shape) could ever do.

Rarely in our busy days do we get exposed to this kind of stuff… treat yourself by turning off you phone and TV and watch this…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqAEfBMlJoc

I’m sure this may make many people angry…others cry… others smile… others become thankful… and hopefully everyone will love more.

Lets remember what’s important in this world…

Valid Zerona Consumer Complaint – “I looked everywhere and can’t find the ‘fine print’”

I sit down with many prospective patients for Zerona consultations to discuss their case and to see if I’ll accept them for my Zerona laser program.

You’d be shocked at some of the things I hear (stories for another time)

But I had one consultation the other day that I need to share with you, because I think she had a very valid complaint!

She was a very pleasant lady in her 50’s who has spent many hours of her life behind a desk and busy with life… she put herself second (or third or forth) to her job and her family.  And now… it was her time.  She wanted to do something for herself.

She started to workout 2 to 3 months ago. She was eating better.  She was definitely on the right track to achieving her health goals.

But… she was getting frustrated.  Frustrated because she was not losing the inches in her tummy the she felt she should have for having been working out heavily for the past 3 months.

I reassured her that what she was doing with her diet and exercise was fantastic and to keep it up.

So I asked her how I could help.

And she this is where she “let me have it”.

It was obvious she was well prepared.  She pulls out a list and says she has some questions. She asked her basic questions that I hear all the time…

Then something changed…

She goes on to say that she has done her homework.  She tells me that I’m all over the internet (I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not) and that in all of her searching with the company, with the Zerona laser program, all the material out there she could not satisfy her one nagging and remaining question.

Do you know what she asked me?

I was actually taken back for a second because no one had ever really said it the way she did.

Here’s what she said:

“In all of the investigating I’ve done on Zerona and your program, I cannot fine the ‘small fine print.’”

What’s this small fine print she is talking about?

You know… the fine print at the end of every drug commercial… or any other “thing” out there.  The small fine print is the disclaimers and all of the “BAD” things about the product or service.

After listening to her tell me all the good things about the Zerona laser and letting her express her frustration with not being able to find anything bad…

Here’s how I responded. (I think my response to her shocked her)

“If there was something bad about the Zerona laser and my program it would be a lot more believable!”

I went on to say that most of us are taught to believe – “If something is too good to be true… it usually is.”  And because the Zerona is:

- so new,

- has no negative side effects (FDA approved, positive side effect is that it normalizes cholesterol),

- it gets such fast and great results (3.5 inches in 2 weeks),

- it is the easiest thing imaginable (you just lay there for 40 minutes for 6 sessions)…

…it really does seem too good to be true!

Look at all the alternative to Zerona – diet, exercise, liposution, drugs, etc – they all have their significant “bad” things.  That makes it more believable to us.

She seem satisfied with my response.

Then… after going over the price of the different programs I’d make available to her she even commented “even the price is too good to be true.”

Well… I’d much rather provide a fantastic service that is affordable and that truly helps someone be healthier and keep them from dangerous lifestyles.

I can’t wait until she is just as happy with the results of my Zerona program.

Blessings,

Dr. Don

Highest Flattery for Dr. Don’s Zerona Blog… oh really?

Before I share with you the shocking main point of today’s blog, I first wanted to say thank you!

For those of you who are subscribing to and commenting on my blog: thank you for the fantastic feed back, support, and sharing of my site with others.

This site was ORIGINALLY designed as an information source, a resource, a reference guide for MY patients… which it has accomplished nicely.  It’s humbling and a bit shocking that this site has become THE SOURCE throughout the entire globe.  I have doctors and patients throughout the world asking me questions (email has become something of a nightmare.)

NOT SURPRISINGLY… this site has also become a source of information for other doctors…

SURPRISINGLY… many sites use my blog as a “Word for word” resource!

They say “imitation” is the highest form of a flattery…

Okay fine.

But to use my material word for word?  That’s not flattery that’s something else.

Don’t get me wrong… I am very happy and willing to allow doctors to use my information for their patients … heck, they can even use my material on their site…

… Just give me some credit. :-)

All of this came to me as a result of patients telling me about other website out there that were using my material.  I told them that didn’t bother me.  Then they explained that my information is being “sold” or “written” as if was the Doctor’s own information.

I want to believe that all of these “word for word” occurrences were done without the doctor’s knowledge – you see most doctors do not actually write their blogs, but rather have other write for them.  So the doctors have no idea this is being done.

If you are one of those website developers… please put my material in your own words… it helps everyone.  And if you do feel like using my material “word for word”, simply give me credit. :-)

On the bright side… I guess this challenge comes with the territory.

Thanks again for making my site so popular.

Stay tuned because I have a lot more in store for you…

Blessings,

Dr. Don

PS – Also thank you to Erchonia Medical (www.erchonia.com), Dr. Paul Maguire, Dr. Madison Spurlock (www.bodybylaser.com) for your support and help.

Zerona Laser Versus Liposuction… and… Working Together?!

Liposuction has come a long way. There have been many advancements over the years.

Zerona Laser treatment is the “new kid on the block” and it is growing in popularity thanks to the Doctors TV show and the all the Network News TV segments.

I want to take a moment and discuss these two very different procedures because I get many questions during my consultations.  Let me share this information in a question/answer format as these are some of the questions I get during my initial meeting with clients.

Patient says, “I’m told that if I undergo liposuction that if I gain weight again, that the fat will be in a different area. Does that happen with Zerona?”

I can’t speak for liposuction or the validity of the comment that the fat returns in different areas, so I’ll limit my response to Zerona.

Zerona does not harm the fat cells.  The laser liquefies the fat within the cell. The laser allows the cell membrane to become temporarily porous and the liquefied fat seeps out into interstitial space.  The cell membrane closes again in 48 hours. There is no scaring and no connective tissue you growth as there is in surgical procedures.

If you were to go to an unhealthy life style, then you run the risk of your body storing fat again. That’s what fat is – stored energy.  So because with Zerona you have not damaged the cells, you’ll gain it in the area your body stored it last time.

I’d suggest that rather than planning on fat returning, how about we find the right solution for you so that you don’t gain any of that unwanted fat that you lost from Zerona or liposuction or whatever.  So be sure to work with a doctor that will aid you in finding out the best program for you – not just sucking out the fat or pointing a laser at your target area.

Patient says, “If I have liposuction I’m told that I’ll have a lot of loose skin… with that happen with Zerona?”

No.  I have had a patient lose up to 15 inches and the skin is as toned as ever.  This happens for a couple of reasons: 1) it’s a process and change that does not occur in an hour… it takes weeks (which in my mind is still fast). 2) The Zerona laser is a cold laser.  Cold lasers have been used for skin issues and skin conditions for longer than they have been used for body contouring fat.  Often a persons rash or scar looks better after treatment… I know, its another benefit that’s too good to be true. Its hard to believe.

Patient says, “If I have liposuction I’ll be put under anesthesia.  That’s scares me because I know that’s one of the most dangerous parts of surgery.  Does Zerona have that?”

No. Zerona is a NON-SURGICAL procedure.  People have it done and go back to work.  If you read my prior blog posts, you can even get work done while under the laser!  With Zerona you don’t even feel it – it is entirely painless!

INTERESTING SIDE NOTE:

Cold laser has been used to help patients eliminate pain due to musculoskeletal conditions such as injuries.  The predecessor to the Zerona was a laser that was used DURING liposuction – called LASER ASSISTED Liposuction.  FDA approved for safety and effectiveness.  During liposuction the Laser Anesthesiologist would use the laser over the area to be treated with liposuction.  The results were better – there was less blood loss, improved recovery time, less bruising, and smoother treated area.

Patient says, “I’m going to have liposuction, what can you do for me in conjunction with the liposuction?”

Great question.  If a person is heart set on liposuction, I won’t stop them… heck, I couldn’t even if I wanted to.  Because the laser has a window of effectiveness 48 hours and the fat cells close there is benefit in treating with the Zerona surrounding the Liposuction procedure for the benefits listed in the INTERESTING SIDE NOTE section.  Its called PRE/POST-OP Zerona treatment.  With this people get results with the liposuction and recover extremely fast with smoother results.  It’s not a common procedure, but it’s done. If I were going to have liposuction done, I’d be sure to have Zerona PRE/POST-OP Procedure done.

I find people hate the idea of surgery. Heck, I’m fearful of surgery.  In my mind, there is no such thing as a “Routine Surgical Procedure” (my father almost died from removal of his tonsils… I’m sure you have heard a story where routine was not so “routine”.)

That’s it for now…

Dr. Troy Don

Zerona Laser Results and Hopping on a Bed

Today I want to give you some tips as to how to stimulate the lymphatic system.

Remember that system?  It’s the system that is responsible for carrying the emulsified fat out of the interstitial space and carrying it to the digestive system. If your lymphatic system is not working properly then the emulsified fat can re-enter the fat cell.

So lets get to it… here are 3 things you can do to help your lymphatic system.

#1 – 30 minute walk

If you go for a 30 minute walk every day you’ll not only have good exercise but you’ll stimulate your lymphatic system (and digestive system).  The oscillation of the body up and down and the contraction of your muscles while walking will “pump” your lymph and thereby get they liquefied fat out of the interstitial space.  Plus the walking will burn a few extra calories. Plus it’s a nice relaxing activity.

You need not walk hard or fast.  A simple causal walk will do the trick.

#2 – A small trampoline

Do you remember those small exercise trampoline where some would do aerobics on them?

Those little trampolines were, and are, great for simply and gently bouncing up and down for.  Do this for 5 minutes and it will do the trick. Do it longer and you’ll give your calves a nice little burn.

#3 – Bouncing on the bed

Ok, so you don’t have 30 minutes to walk and you don’t have a small trampoline… now what?

Well, if you have a spring mattress then you can get the same benefit by sitting down on the corner of your mattress and just bounce up and down.  Do this 5 minutes.

Try these 3 things and you’ll see that just a few minutes could make all the difference in your results!

Blessings,

Dr. Don

Breathe While Under The Zerona Laser For 40 Minutes…

If you were in the gym for 40 minutes you would probably do what I did – read a book, read journals, listen to some music, watch whatever is on the TV screens, wait for gym equipment to open up, talk to your neighbor, or whatever.  As much as I want to use my time efficiently in the gym by working out, sometimes my 60 minutes in the gym is only 30 minutes of actual working out. It helps to be there at 5:30 in the morning.

Certainly I cannot have a business meeting, check email, make my “to do” list, or other productive things.

I can, however, do those things while under the Zerona laser.  In fact, it is common that a patient will be on the phone talking business or checking email.  While I suggest they just sit back and relax, nap, meditate even; most use their time to do other things.

Now, if I was under the laser and I wanted to get the best results possible here is what I would do…

While on my back all I’d do is BREATH.
(reminds me of a blonde joke… for another time)

What do I mean by breathing?

Let me explain…

I’d practice my deep diaphragmatic breathing – or stomach/abdominal breathing. This is very common with tai chi or other Eastern practices.

This type of breathing is excellent at stimulating the body’s systems – digestive, lymphatic, immune and respiratory.

If you have been reading my blogs, you already know the importance of the digestive and lymphatic systems in obtaining results on the Zerona laser.

So how do you do this type of breathing?

Well think of a baby.  If you watch a baby sleep you’ll see the stomach rise with inhalation and lower with exhalation.  Most people, while awake, breathe with their chest (a very inefficient way to breath).

There is a ton of information online regarding Deep Breathing Exercises – find and do what you like.  Below is what works well for me.

So here is what you do:

  1. Take a deep breath in for 4 second, through the nose, giving attention to you stomach rising.
  2. Hold the breath in for 7 seconds,
  3. Slowly and with control let the breath out for 8 seconds, through your mouth (it helps to keep the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth), giving attention to your stomach lowering.  You may even feel that you must contract your abdominal muscles to get all the air out over the full 8 seconds.
  4. Repeat this for the full 20 minutes.  All the while trying to relax every part of my body.

I promise you that you’ll feel extremely, energized even, refreshed as this will greatly oxygenate your system! Oh, and you may feel the urge to get to the bathroom. :-)

Indirect affect of this breathing technique on your shape…

So this breathing technique is fantastic for the reasons mentioned above.  It is also a POWERFUL relaxation and stress reduction technique.  THIS aspect of breathing has an indirect affect on your shape.

Let me explain…

Most of us are over stressed.  This stress has an impact on our cortisol levels.  Cortisol is an adrenal hormone.  Imbalance of the hormone in our system will cause us to gain weight and impede our ability get rid of our unwanted fat.  I’m sure you’ve heard about this hormone.  Much more stuff on this hormone… but that’s another conversation.

So that’s what I’d do while under Zerona on my back.

Then while lying on my stomach I’d probably review my list of things to do and then plan the rest of my day and the next few days – planning if you will.

I have my staff offer massages to patients while under the laser.  I’d probably have a massage on my upper back, legs, head, or arms and hands.  20 minutes is plenty of time to have a massage on any one of those areas.

Heck, even if you are not under the laser this breathing exercise is very effective and offers fantastic health benefit.

Blessings,

Dr. Don
