What You Should Do Before You Start Zerona Laser Treatment (part 2)
This is a continuation on the previous blog entry. Last time I spoke about staying well hydrated. The topic blog is equally important to starting before your first laser treatment.
Remember those 3 calls I received from doctors asking about how to ensure the best results. Well, the good news was they were all doing PART of what I suggest in this blog.
Again, there are a number of things you should do before you start Zerona Laser treatment if you want the best results. Today, I’ll discuss the second of those things…
Supplementation!
I’ve attached a video I made for my patients on the topic of supplementation, and yes… I was very busy and tired when making it
…
What’s that? It is supplementing our diet with vitamins and mineral to allow the body to have the right chemicals to optimize chemical processes of the body. In other words, if your body does not have the right building blocks, then it will not work as well as it could if it did.
I am NOT going to be discussing supplementation for ideal health. Here I will be discussing supplementation for getting the best results with the Zerona laser.
Side note: Unfortunately the medical profession as a whole has very little schooling on this topic. And most do not that the post-graduate education or training required to have a strong grasp of these topics. So if your doctor is unfamiliar with specific recommendations for your individual case, then you may have to seek out that help yourself; it’s not a typical referral.
Because supplementation is a case by case situation, I will limit today’s topic to Niacin. As my patient, I will give you specific recommendations; however, one supplement that you will all be one is Niacin.
All of you will be on niacin. For my program I ask that you take 100mg a day. That’s 500% the US daily value.
What is Niacin?
Niacin is a water-soluble vitamin whose derivatives such as NADH play essential roles in energy metabolism in the living cell and DNA repair.
During metabolic reactions such as fatty acid oxidation and glycolysis, NAD+ serves as an oxidizing agent, oxidizing certain compounds can lead to the breakdown fats and carbohydrates, which ultimately can lead to the production of ATP (energy). So niacin helps to oxidize the fat and makes it easier to get it out of the body versus getting re-absorbed by the cell.
Niacin is also a vasodilator.
Vasodilation is the dilation and expansion of blood vessels (veins, arteries). With the relaxation and dilation of nearby blood vessels, it is possible for the fatty acids and triglycerides sitting in the extra-cellular space to be absorbed into the blood stream rather than reabsorbed by the fat cell.
This is why taking niacin right after your Zerona laser treatment could be the best time to take it.
There are a couple of things you need to know about taking niacin.
Some people get a niacin flush. Because it is a vasodialator – meaning your blood vessels expand, the 98.6 degree internal heat that we maintain suddenly comes to the surface of the skin. This will cause you to feel very hot, or flush, your skin may turn red like a flush or sun burn… some people will feel itchy and want to scratch. Don’t scratch. It is best to just let it pass. It should be over in about 30 minutes or less.
A cool shower can help remedy the discomfort of the flush.
If you want to minimize the chance of the flush, simply take the niacin with food, or at least a glass of milk or a banana.
Nutrition stores have a product that does not have the flush side-effect. Ask for a Flush Free Niacin. I do not recommend this though. It is healthy for your skin to have the flush on occasion. Besides… the flush often only occurs the first few time you take it. And for the majority of people, the flush isn’t that bad in the first place. If you are worried about it, take it with your largest meal of the day.
If you have questions on your specific supplementation, post it with a comment here or email me at DrDon@TheZeronaLaser.com.

Dear MaryA.,
I suggest half your body weight in ounces of water. 200 lbs person should drink 100 ounces of water.
About the other liquids you mentioned. Keep it simple. Water with a twist of lemon/lime. Most people just dont like to drink water… they can… but dont LIKE to. Thanks for your comments.

hi there DR.Don
i wanted to ask do i have to take niacin before or after the first treatment???
and dos niacin have bad effects on the health???
and would diet and exercise lead to the breakdown fats and carbohydrates getting the best results with the Zerona laser treatment???
thanks DR for reading
Hi Bella,
Niacin is great for fat oxidation. I’f start niacin a week before you start Zerona so that you system has it. Then while you’re on Zerona, take the niacin right after your Zerona laser treatment (with a meal if your get a flush). Be sure to talk to your doctor if you are on any medication so that there are no negative drug interactions.
Diet and exercise definitely help give you better results while on the Zerona laser. Diet should be high fiber for healthy digestion and elimination. Exercise can vary – the goals of exercise are 3: increase calorie burn, stimulate digestive system, stimulate lymphatic system.
People love it to kick start a health lifestyle change.
Dont for get to include massage to your Zerona laser program.
Thanks for your comments!

we just started the zerona in our office, i experienced my first treatment. i have some questions though and can not seem to get answers. I take thyroid medication, zoloft, ambien and occasional clonozipam. please tell me if they have any effect on the zerona. I am also concerned about recommemending to patients since so many people take other drugs besides vitamins. What are the risks and what happens if i stop the tx plan mid way thru? what will happen to the fat?
thanks!
Dear Kiki,
Great question. Your doctor need to know the drug interaction issues between the vitamins and drugs for each patient. So I’ll save that advice for them. I will answer your question regarding the risk and what happens if you stop mid way. Short answer: you get less results than if you had the 6 sessions. That’s it. Your body still processes the fat that it would otherwise – picked up by the lymphatic tissue and then eliminated via digestive system. The key is time. 6 sessions is better than 3. 12 sessions is better than 6, from my clinical experience.
Thanks for the question!
Blessings,
Dr. Don
What about release of dioxin/PCBs from those leaky adipocytes? It might turn out to be a good way to detox, but I suspect that there is a Tsunami of toxins right after the treatment.
Yes and No… but you can see how critical it is that a person be on a strong nutritional support system and that their lymphatic system be stimulated.

Is there any chance of getting a seroma with this treatment?? I am already taking Niacin nightly. Would this be increased??
I had surgery like a ceasarian but was for removal of fibroid tumors and now I have a shelf where a small role of fat has settled and I can’t get rid of it. Do you think Zerona would be a good application in this situation
I occasionally have migraines. Because niacin is a vasodialator, would it likely trigger a headache?
Thank you for your blog.
Not necessarily. But great question.
Yes, this for many people is called the pooch. It has for many people been terrific for this area. It also depend on other factors that i go over during the consultation.
Migraines are interesting creatures, yes? They vary from person to person. Could it trigger a headache? Frankly, I’m not sure, I haven’t heard that complaint from any patients. I don’t think i have enough information to give you a strong answer either way. One way to find out for your individual experience…. take some niacin and see. Wish i could be of more help.
Here’s what’s hidden in the fine print. The promises you get of losing 8, 10, 12 inches … that’s collectively from every part of your body. As in an inch from your arm, an inch from your thigh, a half inch from your stomach. I an 5 treatments into the program, I asked when I’d see the six inches melt away from my waist. “Uh, a week to two weeks after you finish.”
Somebody’s gonna sue. It might be me!
Dr. Troy Don,
Does the zerona laser get rid of visceral fat? If I eat healthy now and after the treatment, will the fat ever come back?
Thank You,
Michele
Dear Hall,
I’d be concerned if anyone said to you that you’d lose 6 inches in your waist after 2 weeks and 6 sessions. I get concerned on what I’ve heard some offices are claiming/saying out there. It sounds like you were given the wrong impression on what to expect from the Zerona.
Blessings,
Dr. Troy Don, DC QME
Dear Michele,
Zerona is not for Visceral fat. Good question. for those that don’t know the difference – visceral fat is the type of fat that you see on some guys with the “beer belly”. the firm deep belly fat. Visceral fat is under the abdominal muscle in and around the organs – viscera. The Zerona laser does not penetrate that deeply. And no, if you keep the diet and exercise in line, it shouldn’t come back – don’t give a reason for your body to store the fat.
Blessings,

How much water do you suggest? What about diet soda? Fruit juice? Coffee and Tea? Vitimin waters? Crysal lite added to you water?
Alot of people can not just drink plain water.
